Mr. Cameron

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many drug misusers were receiving treatment by type of service in(a) 2000 and (b) 1997. [37572]

Information on the number of drug misusers in treatment in England in 2000–01 is given in table 1; comparable information is not available for earlier years. Information on the numbers of drug misusers who presented for treatment for the first time or for the first time after a gap of six months, for both 1997 and 2000 is given in table 2. Both tables exclude treatment in prisons.
