To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what her Department's animal health strategy is. [34108]

[holding answer 7 February 2002]: The recent Policy Commission report on the future of farming and food recommended that a comprehensive animal health strategy be devised and implemented. In addition, the on-going inquiries into the foot and mouth epidemic may affect our approach to animal health. The Government will consider the recommendations of these inquiries to determine whether the existing strategy, as described in the CVO's annual reports, should be amended.
