The Milne Task Force was set up in 1999 by the then Secretary of State for Scotland, the right honourable Donald Dewar. The task force was charged with examining the feasibility of a dedicated Gaelic television channel. The Government realise the importance of this subject, and proposals in response to the recommendations contained in the Milne Task Force report are currently being considered in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Scotland Office and within the Scottish Executive. The Government's response will be issued shortly.
