HC Deb 04 February 2002 vol 379 cc665-6W
35. Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what role his Department has in relation to decisions by the appropriate Secretary in the National Assembly for Wales to(a) set limits on and (b) cap the expenditure of a police authority; and if he will make a statement. [29884]

Mr. Denham

Police authorities in Wales, as in England, are responsible for setting budgets and precepts. However, local government finance is a devolved issue. Reserve powers over local authority budgets under the terms of the Local Government Act 1999, rest, for police authorities in Wales, with the National Assembly for Wales.
