HC Deb 16 December 2002 vol 396 cc577-9W
Mr. Curry

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what the total amount of balances held by schools was in each local authority in England in the latest year for which figures are available, expressed as(a) an aggregate sum and (b) a proportion of aggregate school budgets. [86273]

Mr. Miliband

The table, which contains provisional figures derived from Table 2 of the outturn statements provided by local education authorities under section 52 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, sets out the aggregate balances held by each local education authority's schools at the end of the financial year 2000–01, and expresses these as a percentage of the schools' planned budget shares for the year. Comprehensive figures for 2001–02 are not yet available.
