Mr. Burstow

To ask the Secretary of State for Health[pursuant to his answer of 28 November, Official Report, column 408W], on care home inspectors, how many (a) established care home inspector posts and (b) vacancies there were in each of the last five years. [86258]

The available information on the number and whole time equivalent (WTE) of professional and support staff and the number of posts vacant in England is shown in the table for the years 1998–1999 to 200–2001. Data for 2001–2002 is not available.

The data for 2000–2001 are not directly comparable with previous years as they do not include the inspection of provision of under eight activity.

inspection of local authority adoption and fostering services. Provisions in the Care Standards Act 2000 relating to inspection of domiciliary care agencies, nurses agencies, residential family centres, and voluntary adoption agencies have not yet been commenced.

Information on the number of different types of establishment is not yet available.
