Mr. Colin Pickthall

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister (1) what research has been undertaken to examine the effects of clawback on the sale of assets in the new towns; [85243]

(2) what research has been undertaken to examine the extra costs of housing renewal and regeneration in new towns subject to simultaneous ageing; [85242]

(3) what research has been undertaken to ascertain the extra costs falling upon local authorities from new towns designed on the Radburn principle. [85241]

Mr. McNulty

In its response to the recent Select Committee report on New Towns, the Government undertook that, subject to Office of the Deputy Prime Minister funding, a review would be undertaken. This would examine a number of aspects of the New Towns, which would include all the issues mentioned by my hon. Friend. The review would involve consultation with the relevant local authorities.
