To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many persons have been discharged from the(a) Royal Navy, (b) Army and (c) Royal Air Force for medical reasons in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement. [46667]

There have been 10,067 medical discharges from the Naval Services (Royal Navy and Royal Marines), the Army and the Royal Air Force between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2001. These are broken down by service and year in the table.
