To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many staff were employed by the Wales Office in 1997; and what the current figure is. [44173]

Mr. Paul Murphy

For the period since April 2001 the average staff of my Department has been 44 full-time equivalents. The Wales Office did not exist in 1997.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many and what proportion of the staff of his Department are part-time employees. [47194]

The Wales Office at the present time has four staff who work part-time out of a total of 40 staff.
