HC Deb 10 April 2002 vol 383 cc131-2W
Mr. Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills if she will make a statement on the availability of school places at schools in the Ribble Valley. [45792]

Mr. Timms

The supply of school places in the Ribble Valley is a matter for Lancashire local education authority (LEA). LEAs have a duty to ensure that there are sufficient school places available for children in their areas. Where LEAs can demonstrate a need for additional places they can apply to the Department for support.

Lancashire LEA plans additional secondary places in the area, in particular through a new 10-classroom block at Ribblesdale High School, which has a planned opening date of September 2002.
