To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what legal costs have been incurred by his Department in each of the last four years. [34287]

The cost of legal advice and representation incurred externally to the department is

  • £54,667.70 for the financial year 1998 to 1999
  • £50,963.21 for the financial year 1999 to 2000
  • £117,117.11 for the financial year 2000 to 2001.
