HC Deb 10 April 2002 vol 383 c360W
Mr. Leigh

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what arrangements have been made for local authorities to be compensated for additional costs incurred as a result of the announcement of possible sites for accommodation centres; [44573]

(2) what additional resources are given to local authorities to meet additional calls on their services resulting from the presence of asylum seekers. [44572]

Angela Eagle

We expect that, nationally, accommodation centres will reduce the burden on local authorities due to the range of facilities provided on site. This includes education for children and adults, and primary healthcare facilities. We will, however, take funding considerations into account as we continue to develop our policy.
