To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions how many(a) car occupants and (b) pedestrians were killed in car crashes since 1971, broken down into five-yearly intervals. [11135]

1 Figures for 1971–79 inclusive include data for car and taxi occupants only. For 1980 to 1998 they include occupants of minibuses, three wheelers, invalid tricycles and motor caravans. The latter two categories are excluded from figures in 1999 and 2000.

Note

Figures for pedestrians hit by cars are not available for years prior to 1979.
