HC Deb 29 October 2001 vol 373 c560W
Mr. Wood

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people under the age of 18 are diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome in the UK. [10271]

Jacqui Smith

We do not collect figures of the number of young people under the age of 18 who are diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome. The prevalence is estimated to be in the region of three to six per thousand children in the general population.

Mr. Wood

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what basic level of support is offered to the parents of young people with Tourette's Syndrome. [10272]

Jacqui Smith

Parents of young people with Tourette's Syndrome should expect to receive support to help understand their child's difficulty and to assist in their child's care from services that are treating the child. Parents can seek additional information and advice from the Tourette Syndrome (United Kingdom) Association.
