To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce standards for response times from the police in answering telephone calls; and if he will make a statement. [7292]

Responsibility for answering 999 calls is an operational matter and therefore the responsibility of the chief officers of the force concerned.

The Government accept that this is an important issue for both the police and the public, and affects public confidence in the police service.
