Miss McIntosh

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received on the increase in crime north of York in recent months; and if he will make a statement. [7154]

Mr. Denham

[holding answer 15 October 2001]The most recently published recorded crime statistics show that in the 12 months to March 2001 total crime in the North Yorkshire police force area fell by 3.7 per cent. compared with a 2.5 per cent. fall in England and Wales. Figures for individual Basic Command Units are also available in Home Office Statistical Bulletin 12/01 'Recorded Crime', published on 19 July 2001, copies of which are available in the Library.
