Letter from Len Cook to Annabelle Ewing, dated 15 October 2001:
841WAs National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your question on migration to and from the constituent countries of the UK.Tables 1&2 show inward and outward international migration by UK and non-UK EU citizens for the last 10 calendar years for which data are available. Citizenship data are not available for internal migrants, i.e. those moving within the constituent countries of the UK.Table 3 shows the number of total migrants moving from and to England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland, rest of EU, and rest of the world. Data for the Irish Republic are not available separately and are included with the rest of the EU.Net migration for an individual country can be derived from the table by subtracting total outflow from a country, from total inflow, for example, the net figure for England for 1999 is 170.3 thousand i.e. the inflow (528.4 thousand) minus the outflow (358.1 thousand).
