HC Deb 15 October 2001 vol 372 cc977-8W
Mr. Weir

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will estimate the total value of London weightings and London living allowances for her Department; and if she will make a statement. [6836]

Ms Hewitt

The Department of Trade and Industry consolidated London weighting and local pay additions into base pay in 1997. Since then, it has paid staff in London at a higher rate than equivalent staff in the National area through the use of separate pay ranges.

The list includes only projects valued at over £1 million. To include the smaller projects at our posts overseas would involve disproportionate cost. Budgeted expenditure has been included on the list only for those projects that are contractually committed. We have not provided budgeted expenditure for the remaining projects, as its disclosure could prejudice the outcome of competitive tendering.
