To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what training is given to DEFRA staff who are in direct contact with the public. [7774]

Mr. Morley

For staff who have direct contact with the public, a set of relevant courses are offered in DEFRA's core training programme or locally. Staff identify their development and training needs with their managers using the Department's competence framework and undertake the appropriate training. In addition, at group level key skills are identified and staff trained accordingly.
