The "United Kingdom Day Visitors Survey" shows the level of spending to be:

  1. (a) 1996—£6.7 billion
  2. (b) 1997—no survey carried out
  3. (c) 1998—£8.4 billion
  4. (d) 1999—no survey carried out
  5. (e) 2000—no survey carried out
  6. (f) 2001—no survey carried out

The Countryside Agency is working on plans for a further survey in 2002.
