HC Deb 14 November 2001 vol 374 cc770-1W
Mr. Lazarowicz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has made to the European Commission regarding the proposed Prospectus Directive. [14405]

Ruth Kelly

The Economic and Finance Council of Ministers discussed the risk capital action plan, of which the proposed Prospectus Directive is a part, on 6 November. The United Kingdom argued that substantial work on the directive is required to deliver the risk capital action plan's objectives to increase the availability of risk capital in the EU.

HM Treasury is in regular contact with all levels of the Commission, and has communicated the United Kingdom Government's reservations about the directive, as currently drafted, on many occasions.
