To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the allocations for literacy and numeracy funding for each school in Shrewsbury and Atcham; and if he will make a statement. [160514]

[holding answer 9 May 2001]: The allocations for literacy and numeracy for individual schools are determined by local education authorities, and the Department does not collect such information. For 2001–02, Shropshire LEA has been allocated £619,405 for the National Literacy Strategy aid £669,904 for the National Numeracy Strategy.

[holding answer 9 May 2001]: Local education authorities are responsible for determining the allocation of funding to individual schools for the purchase of books, and the Department does not collect such information. Under the Books for Schools grant, Shropshire LEA has received £691,728 since 1997–98.
