HL Deb 27 March 2001 vol 624 cc25-6WA
Lord Baker of Dorking

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many complaints they have received from parents in each of the last 10 years because they have been unable to obtain a place in a mainstream school for their children with special educational needs. [HL1274]

The Minister of State, Department for Education and Employment (Baroness Blackstone)

This information is not held centrally. When the Government consulted on the Green PaperExcellence for all children: Meeting Special Educational Needs, some 81 per cent of those responding to a question about measures to include more pupils with special educational needs favoured greater inclusion. The proportion of pupils in special schools fell from 1.3 per cent in 1991 to 1.2 per cent in 1995 and has remained constant in each of the last six years.
