§ Janet AndersonAs the Government made clear in the White Paper "A New Future For Communications", published last December, we will maintain Channel 4 as a public service broadcaster in the multi-channel environment with a remit which complements and provides competition to the BBC and the ITV companies. We will also ensure that Channel 4 continues to provide distinctive and innovative programming.
