HC Deb 15 March 2001 vol 364 c720W
Mr. Dawson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will estimate the cost to Government in each of the past three financial years of providing(a) services, (b) compensation and (c) criminal injuries compensation to victims of abuse in care. [153393]

Mr. Hutton

[holding answer 12 March 2001]: Services provided to the victims of abuse may include counselling, sexual health screening, medical treatment and/or mental health treatment. We are not able to disaggregate the costs of providing these services to show whether or not the service-user in any case has been a victim of abuse in care.

Information is not held centrally about compensation payments paid by central or local government in the last three years to individuals abused while in care.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority does not record its awards under a separate category of children abused while in care.
