§ Mr. Gordon PrenticeTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he took to ensure that all post offices were informed of the date when old £20 notes ceased to be legal tender; and what publicity material was supplied to them. [152863]
§ Mr. Alan JohnsonThis is an operational matter for the Post Office. I understand that the Post Office informed post office outlets of the date when old £20 notes ceased to be legal tender principally by issuing articles in a monthly internal publication sent to all front-line staff. The first of these articles appeared at the end of August 2000. In addition, a national helpline is available to front-line staff should they require further assistance.
