HC Deb 28 June 2001 vol 370 cc164-5W
Jeremy corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and commonwealth Affairs what actions are being taken by his department to establish a permanent secretariat for the Antarctic environmental Protocol signatories. [1056]

Mr. Bradshaw

We are in discussions with a number of Antarctic Treaty Parties on the question of a Secretariat. This is a matter which may arise at the forthcoming Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (9–20 July 2001, St. Petersburg, Russia), though the agenda for that meeting has not yet been confirmed.
