To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many(a) asylum cases and (b) other immigration cases are now awaiting consideration by the Independent Appellate Authority. [164]

At the end of May 2001, the Immigration Appellate Authority had 18,145 outstanding asylum cases and 3,230 outstanding other immigration cases awaiting final determination.
