§ Mr. TimmsWe collect and publish data annually on the numbers of teachers and on vacancy levels, both nationally and by local education authority. However, we do not collect or publish projections of demand or possible shortages, either nationally or by Parliamentary constituency. On the supply of places, local education authorities have a duty to ensure that there are sufficient school places within their area, and the Government believe that decisions on these are best taken locally.
