HC Deb 17 July 2001 vol 372 cc174-5W
Mr. Woodward

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will make a statement on the reservation taken by the UK to article 22 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. [3877]

Angela Eagle

I have been asked to reply.

The United Kingdom ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991. The reservation in respect of article 22 in no way inhibits the discharge of our obligation; under the Convention. It is there to safeguard the right of the United Kingdom to determine its own immigration and nationality laws.
