To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what percentage of total UK freight was transported by inland waterway in(a) 1997, (b) 1998, (c)1999 and (d) 2000. [3749]

§ Mr. Jamieson
The percentage of total domestic UK freight (tonne-kilometres moved) by inland waterway in each year 1997 to 1999 was 0.8 per cent. The percentage for 2000 is not yet available.
