To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many(a) hip replacement and (b) knee replacement operations required revision operations in each of the past 10 years. [2375]

[holding answer 9 July 2001]: The table shows the data for in-patient episodes for hip and knee revisions in national health service hospitals in England, from 1989–90 to 1999–2000, the latest year for which figures are available.
