HC Deb 10 July 2001 vol 371 c474W
27. Valerie Davey

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment his Department has made of the impact of the work of the BBC World Service. [1527]

Mr. MacShane

The BBC World Service is the best known and most respected voice in international broadcasting, increasing respect for, and good will towards, Britain around the world. The Government aim to ensure that the World Service retains its pre-eminent position. That is why we are providing an extra £64 million for it in 2001–04.
