To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the number of jobs which would be lost in currency dealing in the City of London if the pound were abolished. [1612]

The determining factor underpinning any Government decision on membership of the single currency is the national economic interest. The Government have said that the Treasury will complete an assessment of the five tests within two years of the start of this Parliament.
