Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many children travelling by train have been killed in rail accidents in each year since 1992–93. [147496]

Mr. Hill

The information requested is shown in the table, which covers fatalities on the national railway and the London Underground. Two of the fatalities were on the national railway and one on the London Underground. "Children" is defined as passengers under the age of 16. Further data can be found in the Chief Inspector of Railways Annual Reports on Railway Safety, copies of which are available in both Libraries of the House.
