To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will list the solicitors and barristers appointed circuit judges over the last five years who have not sat previously as recorders; which of them had no other judicial experience prior to appointment; and on what basis they were appointed. The information is as follows.

  1. (i) Those appointed circuit judges over the past five years who had not previously sat as recorders:
    • Solicitors
      • Her Honour Judge Andrew
      • His Honour Judge Hollis
      • His Honour Judge McKenna
      • His Honour Judge Wade
    • Barristers
      • His Honour Judge Connor
      • His Honour Judge Prophet
      • His Honour Judge Tyzack QC.
  2. (ii) Only Judge McKenna, had no other prior judicial experience.
  3. (iii) Judge McKenna was appointed to the circuit bench on the Midland and Oxford Circuit on 26 July 2000. He was recommended for appointment following a public competition.
