HC Deb 26 February 2001 vol 363 c412W
Mrs. Gillan

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many RR Spey turbofan engines have been sold to China; and if he will make a statement. [150533]

Mr. Alan Johnson

[holding answer 15 February 2001]: Licences to export arms and other goods whose export is controlled for strategic reasons are issued by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry acting through DTI's Export Control Organisation (ECO). Any export from the UK of RR Spey turbofan engines would normally require a licence under ML10 of the Military List (Part III of Schedule 1 to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994). Information about a particular company's commercial transactions is commercial in confidence under Exemption 13 of the Code of Practice on Access to Government information and the company concerned should be approached for such information.
