To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many(a) men and (b) women who were appointed justices of the peace for the Greater London area during the last 12 months were from an ethnic minority background. [151016]

§ Jane Kennedy
In the 1999–2000 financial year (the latest figures available) 38 people (14 men and 24 women) from an ethnic minority background were appointed as justices of the peace in the Greater London area out of a total of 175 appointments made; that is 21.7 per cent. of the total.
