To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) how many(a) former UK military personnel and (b) civilians imprisoned by the Japanese during the second world war have applied for the ex-gratia payment; and how many have been refused in each category; [150577]

(2) how many civilian internees imprisoned by the Japanese during the second world war, who at the time were not UK citizens but who subsequently were given British nationality, have been refused the ex-gratia payment. [150578]
