HC Deb 08 February 2001 vol 362 cc670-1W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many pub exclusion orders were(a) applied for and (b) granted in (i) 1998, (ii) 1999 and (iii) 2000. [148957]

Mr. Charles Clarke

The power to make a pub exclusion order is contained in section 1 of the Licensed Premises (Exclusion of Certain Persons) Act 1980. Where a person is convicted of an offence committed on licensed premises and the court is satisfied that in committing that offence the offender resorted to violence, or offered or threatened to resort to violence, the court may make an exclusion order, which prohibits the offender from entering those premises, or any other specified premises. Currently maintained statistics do not allow the identification of occasions where pub exclusion orders are made by the court.
