To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many specialist MS nurses there are in the UK; what plans he has to train more MS nurses; and if he will make a statement. [149196]

Information on specialist multiple sclerosis nurses is not collected centrally. However, we understand that the MS Society has recently launched a £2 million fund to encourage the development of MS specialist nurse posts.

The development and funding of specialist nursing posts to treat specific conditions such as MS is for health authorities, in partnership with primary care groups/trusts and other local stakeholders, to determine.
