HC Deb 06 February 2001 vol 362 c514W
Mrs. Brinton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on his plans for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. [147350]

Mr. Hutton

Developing and improving support for people with Alzheimer's disease is a priority for us. NICE has recently recommended that donepezil, rivastigmine and galantamine should be made available in the NHS as one component of the management of those people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The forthcoming National Service Framework for Older People will, for the first time, set national standards and define service models for older people's health and social care, driving up the quality and reducing the variations of that care. The NSF will look at conditions that mainly affect older people, including dementia.
