To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what funds are available to the National Lottery Commission for the purposes of meeting obligations to pay compensation to a third party; and if he will make a statement. [148184]

Mr. Chris Smith

Under the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (as amended), such sums as are necessary to defray any expenditure of the Commission shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament. The Act (as amended) also provides for the Consolidated Fund to be reimbursed from the National Lottery Distribution Fund for the Commission's expenditure, taking into account receipts from the Lottery operator's licence fees.
