HC Deb 19 December 2001 vol 377 c320W
Mr. Laws

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make it his policy not to allow(a) social insurance, (b) a ring-fenced hypothecated tax and (c) additional health user charges as solutions for the future funding mechanism for the national health service; and if he will make a statement. [23659]

Mr. Andrew Smith

The Government have made their commitment to increasing resources over the next three years for the NHS, funded from general taxation and linked to reform. Decisions on taxation and spending will be taken in future Budgets and in the spending review next year.
