To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what estimate she has made of the number of people employed in manufacturing industry in(a) Worcestershire and (b) Herefordshire. [20654]

The DIES Labour Force Survey—August 2001 indicated that:

  1. (a) 67,000 people (23.7 per cent. of the labour force) were employed in the manufacturing sector in Worcestershire.
  2. (b) 15,000 people (18.9 per cent. of the labour force) were employed in the manufacturing sector in Herefordshire.
