To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what estimate she has made of the impact of the climate change levy on carbon dioxide emissions(a) to date and (b) over the next five years. [15503]

[holding answer 16 November 2001]: I have been asked to reply.

The climate change levy has only been operational since April and no assessment of delivered emissions reduction has yet been undertaken. However, the climate change levy package is forecast to deliver reductions in CO₂, emission by 5 million tonnes of carbon a year by 2010.
