§ Ms Beverley HughesStandard Spending Assessments (SSAs) are a means of distributing a given total of grant which takes account of the demographic, physical and 69W social characteristics of an area. Council tax levels are a matter for local authorities, which have to answer to their voters. SSA and council tax increases for 2001–02 are given in the table:
