Letter from Len Cook to Mr. Derek Twigg, dated 23 April 2001: As National Statistician I have been asked to reply to your recent question asking what the standardised mortality ratio for all cancers in (a) England, (b) the North West, (c) North Cheshire and (d) Halton was in the last year for which figures are available (157820). These figures are given in the table below. They are presented for the combined years of 1997 to 1999, using England and Wales death rates as the standard of comparison.
