HL Deb 10 April 2001 vol 624 c95WA
Lord Lester of Herne Hill

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the current scales of remuneration for the chairmen of independent government organisations; and what are the criteria on which they are based. [HL907]

Lord Falconer of Thoroton

There are no scales of remuneration for the chairmen of non-departmental public bodies. The level of remuneration in each case is a matter for individual departments, taking into account the facts of each appointment. Departments need to be able to justify the level of pay and to ensure that it is comparable to that paid for similar responsibilities within the public sector. Rates paid to individual chairmen can be found inPublic Bodies 2000, an annual publication of the Cabinet Office.
