HL Deb 10 April 2001 vol 624 c168WA
The Earl of Caithness

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To whom the compensation will be paid if the Government win the court case against the French Government on the question of their ban on importing British beef. [HL1689]

Baroness Hayman

The case against France for failure to lift its ban on imports of UK beef is being pursued by the EU Commission and not by the UK, although the UK is intervening. Compensation is not an issue in these proceedings. It would be for those in the industry with a direct commercial interest to pursue any subsequent claims for compensation.
